I've been running a media center PC for years, and for the past year, it's been the primary content provider in the living room. You'll note that I used lower-case "media center" as I've stayed well clear of Microsoft's product, and have been using Snapstream's Beyond TV software in combination with basic satellite service from DirectTV, and a Firefly remote (which, unfortunately, does not seem to be widely available anymore).

The reaction on the internet to Apple's "latest creation" seems to be tepid at best. In short, folks were expecting the second coming of the "jesus phone" and instead, they got the iPod Touch, super-sized. I've been considering the purchase of some form of light-weight, internet-capable device with a decent sized screen, but the iPhone OS is just too locked-down for my tastes. The fact that it still can't do multitasking is just plain annoying. It feels like they rushed this product to market, and I can't imagine many folks will buy into this, especially if they just bought a 3GS iPhone.

Though it's hard to describe the service, I suspect once you watch the video explanation, it'll make a lot more sense. It's too early for me to jump into a full commitment, as there aren't that many people calling me or texting me aside from work. I'm not exactly known for being a big talker on cell calls (I hate the subtle delay on cell phone audio), and most of the family isn't heavy into texting, but perhaps this new service will widen my "calling circle."
I'll put it into "testing" for the moment.
